Home About us About us Helsingin aikuisopiston peruskoulu Helsingin aikuisopiston peruskoulu is one of the largest schools in Finland that provide basic education for adults. About 40 people work at our school every year. The school has a management team of four people. The principal is Jyrki Sipilä. Basic education for adults (Basic Education Act, section 46) is for adults who did not finish basic education or never went to school. It gives them the basic knowledge and skills they need in life and in their studies. After basic education for adults, students can continue to upper secondary education, which means vocational education or general upper secondary school (lukio). They can also go to working life. Curriculum We teach according to the national core curriculum for basic education for adults by the Finnish National Agency for Education. We also have our own curriculum, which is based on the national one. Basic education for adults is free of charge for students. We may charge a small fee for single subject courses. Their average age is about 35. Our students’ first languages include Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish dialects and Somali. Commitments Our whole organisation, including our school, has declared itself a Discrimination-Free Zone as part of the Ministry of Justice campaign. Our organisation has signed Diversity Charter Finland. It is the diversity commitment of FIBS, a national corporate responsibility network.
