Basic Education Finnish courses

Basic Education in Helsingin aikuisopisto has offered beginners Finnish as a Second Language courses in the school year 2023-2024. There are no beginners courses in the Autumn term 2024. We will offer beginners courses again in the Spring term 2025! We will publish the courses on this page. The studies are part-time.

We will open the link to the course webshop in Wilma on this page when the registration is open. You can check the course content by clicking on the course title in Wilma. Select a course by clicking on the green + sign. Once you have selected all the courses you want, click on the shopping cart. You can then fill in the registration form and pay the courses.

The courses are open to all adults living in Finland who wish to learn Finnish. You can start Finnish at level 0 with the course Suomi Yksi (1). Studying continues to the courses Suomi Kaksi (2) and then to Suomi Kolme (3). You must know how to write in the Latin alphabet when starting. Each course is 28 lessons.

Courses are available both in person and online. In person teaching takes place at Runeberginkatu 22-24, 00100 Helsinki. Online courses are taught on Zoom. The teacher will send a link by email before the start of the course to those enrolled.

The course fee per course was 30,00 € in the school year 2023-2024. The students purchase the textbook themselves. In the school year 2023-2024 the book was Suomen mestari 1, revised edition.

Note! If you have already taken one of these courses in the Basic Education in Helsingin aikuisopisto, you cannot unfortunately take the same course again. We will check the enrolments before the course starts. You can ask for more information at the Basic Education Office. You also need to live in Finland to participate in online courses.
