Home Basic Education The Introductory Phase The Introductory Phase Basic EducationApplying The Literacy Phase The Introductory Phase The Final Phase The Introductory Phase of Basic Education The Introductory Phase of Institute of Adult Education in Helsinki is aimed at students who cannot yet start the Final Phase studies, who can read and write in the Latin alphabet (ABC), whose skills in the Finnish language are approximately on the level A1.3 and who have not completed the equivalent of Finnish primary school education in their home country or elsewhere. Studying in the Introductory Phase The Introductory Phase lasts until the student can move into the Final Phase studies or all the courses in the Introductury Phase are done. The studies last for approximately 1 year and they entail 38-42 courses (á 28 hours) of studies in the Finnish language, basic English language, mathematics, social studies, environmental and nature sciences, health studies, handicrafts, plus guidance and optional courses. The Introductory Phase groups study between 8.40 a.m. and 4 p.m from Monday to Friday. Since life situations often vary, one can move from the Introductory Phase into working life or language courses. The aim of our study guidance is to find each student the most suitable path forward.
