Apply to Basic Education

Helsingin aikuisopiston peruskoulu provides basic education for adults who have moved to Finland. You can study in the Literacy Phase, the Introductory Phase and the Final Phase. You can apply at any time of the year.

Read this before you apply

Read the requirements for each phase. When you apply, we choose the right phase for you. We choose it based on the entrance exam.

If you are a customer of employment services, talk to your contact person before you apply. You may also get financial aid for students from Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland).

Send your application

You can apply to Basic Education online. Complete the form carefully.

You can add your old school certificates to the application. We need your old certificates especially if you have studied in basic education for adults before.

If you need help with the application, we can complete the form together with you at the Basic Education Office at Runeberginkatu 22–24.

If you want to correct your application, or if your phone number or address changes, contact the office. Do not send a new application.

Invitation to the entrance exam

After we have processed your application, we will send you an invitation to the entrance exam by text message and email.

Please wait for the invitation. We process applications in the order in which they arrive.

All applicants take the entrance exam. We do not accept students based on certificates only.

The entrance exam has a written part and an interview. We choose the students based on them.

Decision about your study place

We will send a letter to your home address about your study place. Studies usually start in August or January.

Please note: you cannot study at two schools at the same time. If you change schools, you must leave your old school first.

If you are suitable for Basic Education but our groups are full, you will be on the waiting list. We will tell you about this. We will contact you if a place becomes free in a suitable group.

We will also tell you if your application is not accepted.

Who can apply?

Read the requirements for each phase below. If you have already completed studies equal to Finnish basic education, we recommend that you apply to another type of education.

We cannot accept applicants aged 40 or over whose integration period is still ongoing.
