Basic Education Finnish courses in the Autumn term 2023

Basic Education in Helsingin aikuisopisto will offer Finnish as a Second Language courses in the autumn of 2023. The studies are part-time.

The courses are open to all adults living in Finland who wish to learn Finnish. You can start Finnish at level 0 and continue through the autumn semester. Beginners courses start from level 0 three times during the autumn: in August, September and November. Enrolment for these courses will also open as scheduled throughout the autumn. Please see the schedule below! We also plan to continue them in the Spring semester 2024. We will publish the Spring 2024 schedule in the autumn. You must be able to write in the Latin alphabet when starting. Each course is 28 lessons.

Courses are available both in person and online. In person teaching takes place at Runeberginkatu 22-24, 00100 Helsinki. Online courses are taught on Zoom. The teacher will send a link by email before the start of the course to those enrolled.

Note! If you have already taken one of these courses in the Basic Education in Helsingin aikuisopisto, you cannot unfortunately take the same course again. We will check the enrolments before the course starts. You can ask for more information at the Basic Education Office. Unfortunately, you also need to live in Finland to participate in online courses.

Registration for courses

The course fee per course is 30,00 €. You have to enroll to each course separately. The students purchase the textbook themselves (Suomen mestari 1, revised edition).

You can register and pay for the course online. Registration is redirected to the course online shop on Wilma. You can check the course content and lesson times by clicking on the course title in the course online shop. Select a course by clicking on the green + sign. Once you have selected all the courses you want, click on the shopping cart. You can then fill in the registration form and pay the courses.

A social security number and email address are required to sign up. If you do not have a social security number, you can register by email to peruskoulu@helao.fi. If you do not have an email address, you can register at the Basic Education office. You cannot participate in the online courses without an email address.

Payment and cancellation of courses

The courses can be paid online or by invoice. The payment method will be chosen before filling in the application form. If you choose to pay by invoice, the school will send you the invoice by email. Those who have enrolled to courses during July will get their invoices on July 31 due to the staff holidays between July 3 and 28. Please fill in the form carefully!

You will receive an email confirmation when your registration has been successfully received. If the course is full, you will remain in the queue. We will be in touch as soon as places become available.

You can cancel your registration one week before the start of the course at latest. If the course is less than one week away, your registration is binding. If there are not enough participants and the school has to cancel the course, we will refund the fees to the participants. We will confirm the starting of the course at latest three working days before the course is scheduled to start.
