Piano lessons

The piano is certainly one of the easiest instruments to learn to play in many ways. It is a versatile instrument and certainly familiar to many. You can play any style on the piano, from classical jazz and rock to folk music. The piano is a solo and accompaniment instrument and they are available in acoustic, electric and in different sizes. Usually a standard piano has 88 keys, 52 white keys and 36 black keys. In electric versions, there may be slightly fewer keys. The piano is not difficult to learn to play, and playing it does not depend on age, if there is good motivation to learn and practice. Beginner piano courses focus on, among other things, playing technique and position and the basics of musical notation. Beginner advanced and advanced courses continue to develop playing technique and musical notation. However, the main emphasis is on playing and theory is reviewed through playing exercises.

The college offers several group piano courses for both beginner and advanced students. In group piano lessons, each student has their own keyboard and headphones.

In piano pair lessons, you learn by playing and observing. During the lessons, you do exercises together, practice the repertoire, and support the development of technique and musical notation. Pair lessons are aimed at all levels.

In private piano lessons, you play pieces of your choice or those suggested by the teacher – the course content is shaped according to your wishes and goals. Private lessons are offered for both adults and children aged 9-12.

College facilities Located with good transport connections, the courses are easy to get to. The courses are held at the university building on Runeberginkatu or in the center of Helsinki on Annankatu.

Course info

The lesson length is 45 minutes.

The language of instruction for the courses is usually Finnish. In many courses, teachers can also teach in English or another language. You can ask the student guidance office what language will be used in the course.

Remember to take care of your own insurance coverage, as the college does not take out insurance for students.
