Credit courses

Recording your skills in the national Koski database maintained by the Finnish National Board of Education is official and can be useful, for example, in job searches, in workplace development discussions, or it can also be used as a reference at another educational institution.

Credits from community college courses

You can also get credits from community college courses. Your skills can be assessed in courses that are marked separately as "credit course".

Judgment

Studying at a community college is voluntary, and others can also participate in the same course at the same time, and their performance will not be assessed.

To receive a study mark, you must have given your consent to the official marking when you registered for the course.

The overall course performance is assessed on a “pass/fail” scale. The competence achieved in the course is passed if it corresponds at least to the level stated in the course’s competence-based description.

More detailed assessment criteria are generally presented separately for each course in the competency-based description. At the beginning of the course, the teacher presents in detail the tasks that will be assessed. The assessment criteria describe the level of knowledge, skills and competence that the course aims to achieve.

The scope of competency-based courses is expressed in credits.

Your skills will be recorded in a national register

Approved course completion can be recorded in the Koski database, which can be accessed using bank codes. My Study Path through the service.

Registering your skills and providing your personal data to the Koski database is always a personal choice of the student. In the Koski database, you can define how and to whom you want to verify your skills.

Make use of your competency assessment

Recording your skills in the Koski database is official and can be useful, for example, when looking for a job or in workplace development discussions.

With official registration, your skills can also be recognized at another educational institution. Please note that the decision to accept your skills always rests with the receiving educational institution.
