There is a wide range of courses on offer, covering the basics of gardening, from houseplant care to greenhouse cultivation and flower tying. Hiking courses introduce you to the secrets of light hiking, wine lovers can take trips to wine regions in different countries, and there are also boating courses that cover inland water regulations, navigation and becoming a charter boat driver.

Garden and plants courses

You will learn how to care for and use plants and gardens, from caring for a fruit tree to creating a Christmas bouquet. A thorough houseplant course will help you keep your plants healthy throughout the dark season. All-inclusive flower arranging courses will teach you how to make wreaths, bouquets and garlands. Short courses will create Christmas houseplants or plant terrariums.

Food culture

Wine culture courses offer a travel-inspired atmosphere, introducing participants to the wine cultures of Spain, Italy and Portugal in the fall of 2025. World of Tea will lead you through the cultural history and tastes of different tea cultures. Cocktail courses will take you from theory to practice.

Genealogy courses

In the distance learning course in genealogy, you will learn about new tools and research topics in genealogy, such as artificial intelligence, DNA, migration, and searching for female ancestors.

Weather and meteorology courses

In the cloud course you will learn good and beautiful information about different clouds and their significance in meteorology. Cloud identification is useful for boaters, birdwatchers and photographers, for example.

Boating and shipping

The courses offer a comprehensive range of boating training for different needs. Courses range from boating basics and inland water regulations to tidal navigation and sailing basics. Some of the courses prepare for Traficom exams and enable you to acquire international qualifications.

Subscription courses

Does your company need to organize a program for a quiet/busy day or other recreational days or kick-off events? We organize various activities and workshops to help create a sense of community and relaxation.

Flower arranging courses are offered, where students will learn how to make spring door wreaths, decorative bouquets using the spiral technique, and beautiful flower jewelry for spring parties. The courses combine theory and practice, and utilize natural materials and cut flowers. Participants will receive instructions on selecting, caring for, and decorating plants, and will learn how to create beautiful and unique arrangements.

Course info

The lesson length is 45 minutes.

The language of instruction for the courses is usually Finnish. In many courses, teachers can also teach in English or another language. You can ask the student guidance office what language will be used in the course.

You can request a certificate from the office once the course has been completed.

Distance teaching

Some of the teaching at Helsinki Adult Education Centre is organised via distance learning. The distance learning applications are easy to use and you can join the class even from home. The link you receive will automatically direct you to the distance learning class.

If you are using Moodle as your learning platform, you will receive a username and password by email before the course starts.
