Language courses
The selection includes language courses for both beginners and those who have studied for a longer time. There are also specific courses available, for example to improve grammar or develop oral language skills. Language courses focus on oral communication situations, without forgetting the grammatical basis and culture. Versatile study methods, the support of modern educational technology as an illustration of teaching, and encouraging and motivating teachers inspire you to use the language boldly.
The lesson is 45 minutes long. In foreign language courses at levels EU 0–A2.2, Finnish is usually used in addition to the target language, more in beginners' courses and less in advanced courses as you progress. From level B1 onwards, teaching is mainly in the target language. You can get more detailed information from the study advice service if you wish.
The institute's language courses are primarily intended for those over the age of 16. Unfortunately, our language courses are not suitable for those younger than this.

Cultural advantage
If you want to study foreign languages and use the voluntary allowance provided by your employer tax-free cultural benefit (max. €400 per year), the institute can make a separate agreement with your employer about this. In this case, you choose the language course yourself and the institute will invoice the entire course fee or the part of it determined by your employer directly from your employer. The student does not make the payment himself with Edenred, Epass or Smartum. Ask for more information from the study counselling or the office.
Distance teaching
Some of the language courses at Helsinki Adult Education Centre are organised via distance learning. The distance learning applications are easy to use and you can join the class from home. The link you receive will automatically direct you to the distance learning class.
If you are using Moodle as your learning platform, you will receive a username and password by email before the course starts.
