Social psychology examines the formation of human actions, ways of thinking, emotions and identity in relation to social communities and society, as well as phenomena related to human interaction and group processes. The special interests of the social psychology department of the University of Eastern Finland's Department of Social Sciences are the development of the individual self in relation to community and culture, the social conditions of individual well-being, the functioning of groups, organizations and communities, themes of social perceptions and political social psychology, and visual methods.

The studies are useful for those working in, for example, social and health care, teaching and guidance, as well as management, development and personnel positions.
