Courses Open to All
The Institute of Adult Education in Helsinki organises introductory, basic (A1.1-A1.3), intermediate (B1-B2) and advanced (C1-C2) Finnish language courses.
The introductory level courses are reading and writing courses for those who would like to learn how to read and write in the Latin alphabet. The level classifications of other courses (A1.1-C2) are based on the Common European Framework of reference for language.
The courses are open to all those interested in studying Finnish. The courses are held during the day, in the evening and at weekends. Some of them are intensive courses. The courses are mainly taught in Finnish, but some courses may, if necessary, use also another language, such as English or Russian.
The Institute also holds examinations for the National Certificate of Language Proficiency (intermediate level) as well as practise courses for the examinations.
You can flexibly apply for the courses throughout the year. You can apply online or at the Institute’s office.
Intensive courses can be considered part of your personal integration programme if they are approved By your local Employment and Economic Development Office (TE-toimisto). These courses have 15-16 contact lessons per week and homework minimum 5 hours a week. You need to check with your local employment office before you start the course, whether the course will be approved.
Labour Market Training Aimed at Integrating Immigrants
In addition, we organise labour market training aimed at integrating immigrants. You can apply for this training through an Employment and Economic Development Office (TE-toimisto).
