The Final Phase of Institute of Adult Education in Helsinki is aimed at students

  • who have the study skills required at the Final Phase,
  • whose Finnish language skills are at minimun A2.1 and
  • who are 18 years or older, and who have not completed the equivalent of Finnish primary school education in their home country.

The Final Phase studies are approximately 1-2 years in duration and they entail 46-50 courses (á 28 hours) of studies in the Finnish language, English as A-language, Swedish or Spanish as B-language, mathematics, physics, chemistry, history, social studies, biology, geography, health studies, religion (islam) or life stance education, guidance and optional courses.

From the Final Phase one often continues into vocational studies or straight to working life. The aim of guidance is to find each student the most suitable forward path.


You can apply to our basic education at any time. The term starts in August or January and we advertise in various places when the application periods opens. If you wish to apply outside the application period you can do so. We will take you on our waiting list and if a place becomes available we will invite you to a test.

Application form:

Spring term begins on Monday January 8 and ends on Friday June 1, 2018. Autumn term begins August 13 and ends December 21, 2018.

We also accept students who wish to study subject studies (for example maths, Finnish, English). If you wish to study singular subject studies, please contact our office at Arkadiankatu 28.
