Effective start – supporting a newly arrived S2 learner, 10 credits

Training for teachers

Target group

The training is intended for those currently working as teachers of adult immigrants and those applying for this job. Participants are required to have a teacher education (classroom teacher, special education teacher, subject teacher or equivalent qualification) and experience in teaching adult immigrants.

The training is well suited for teachers of various subjects. Priority is given to teachers working in liberal education and adult education.

Those who have studied outside Finland must have equivalent teacher training from their home country, a recognized degree, and a Finnish language proficiency level of C1.

Objectives and contents

The goal is to provide participants with additional information and tools for working with linguistic and cultural awareness and taking into account the learner's situation.

The training is based on the basics of the integration training curriculum, among other things. The content of the training includes language and culture-aware working methods and a guiding approach, didactics, educational technology, language proficiency assessment, social and working life knowledge, and dealing with traumatized students.

Participants will also have the opportunity to observe the work of experienced teachers.

Studies and schedule

The training will be implemented as distance learning. The training includes nine contact teaching sessions, which will be implemented using the Zoom application, as well as online work. Contact teaching days on Zoom: Thu 23.3., Fri 14.4., Fri 5.5., Thu 25.5., Thu 24.8., Fri 15.9., Thu 5.10., Fri 27.10., Fri 17.11. a total of 9 times, always from 16.30:19.00 to XNUMX:XNUMX.

All subject areas have an assignment, and a learning diary is also kept. It is also a good idea to take the time spent on the assignments into account in your own time management plan.

Completion of the training requires attendance at all meetings. All tasks included in the training must be completed by December 12.12.2023, XNUMX to receive a certificate.

The application period for the training is open until April 2.4.2023, XNUMX.

The selection results will be announced after the application period ends.

Educators

The trainers are experts from, among others, Helsinki Adult Education Institute, the University of Helsinki and the Trauma Therapy Centre.

Payments and cancellation terms

The training is educational personnel training funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education and is free of charge for participants.

Any travel, accommodation, food and substitute expenses are the participant's responsibility.

Cancellations after the last day of registration will be charged 50 euros. Dropping out of the course without a valid reason will be charged 100 euros.
