Equality and non-discrimination at Helsinki Adult Education Institute

Results of the equality and non-discrimination survey

In spring 2023, we conducted a survey among our students regarding their perceived equality and equity at our college. 272 students responded to the survey, most of whom were women.

Overall, the responses conveyed satisfaction with the college's activities in matters of equality and non-discrimination. The most common praise was that the college pays attention to the implementation of equality and non-discrimination.

In the responses to the equality survey, the college's course description texts, experiences of the most recent course, and the college's course selection were almost unanimously perceived as equal and non-discriminatory. On the other hand, some of the open comments pointed out that it is challenging to answer the questions because the students in their own course have only been women. According to the responses, no discrimination, harassment, or bullying as described in the Equality Act has been experienced or observed in the college's teaching or customer service activities.

The answers to the equality survey were similar, although more respondents chose the equality survey as their answer. I can't say.. In the open-ended responses, there were requests for plain-language course descriptions and more courses in English. For exercise courses, there was a desire for lighter groups that took into account physical disabilities.
