Education: Strengthening Adult Learner's Literacy, 12 credits

Training for adult S2 teachers

Target group

The training is suitable for all adult S2-teachers whose groups have challenges in reading skills, reading speed or reading comprehension.

The target group is teachers of liberal arts, vocational adult education and home education, as well as other teachers who teach or are transitioning to teaching slow groups or literacy groups.

Participants are required to have a teacher education (classroom teacher, special education teacher, language subject teacher or equivalent qualification).

Experience in teaching adult immigrants is an advantage.

Those who have studied outside Finland must have equivalent teacher training from their home country, a recognized degree, and a Finnish language proficiency level of C1.

The teaching will be streamed live, so you can also participate from your own location.

Objectives and contents

The goal is to strengthen the teacher's basic skills awareness and provide skills for teaching literacy, multi-literacy, and weak readers.

The training strengthens didactic skills and cultural sensitivity, as well as a language-aware approach and the identification of potential learning difficulties.

Studies

The training includes nine teaching days and online work. The scope of the training is 12 ECTS credits.

All subject areas have an assignment, and a learning diary is also kept.

The most important contents: didactics, functional methods, language-aware teaching, assessment, educational technology, cultural knowledge, information about learning difficulties and traumas, familiarization with curricula, and the opportunity to observe teaching.
