Sustainable style course
The sustainable style course provided tips on how to build a functional wardrobe. Participants were given the keys to their own style and vintage clothing to take home.
Helsinki Adult Education Center organized the most wonderful style course of the autumn, led by stylist, author and beauty coach Sohvi Nyman.
The purpose of the sustainable style course was to learn how to highlight your best features and wear clothes that make you feel great. This would require identifying your own style and creating a functional wardrobe.

During the first course, each participants color scheme was defined using blush and fabrics.
“The right colors make a person glow,” Sohvi advised.
The course participants learned to identify body types A, Y, H, O, X and heard what to prefer and what to avoid. The wrong type and size of clothes distort the body's proportions and are uncomfortable to wear.
– The secret to a functional wardrobe is combinability, comfort and versatility.
Durable style is high quality
Sohvi advised me to shop infrequently and thoughtfully – with reason, not emotion. It would be a good idea for new purchases to fit into my current wardrobe.
– You can style an outfit you choose for work on the fly for an evening out, for example with scarves, bags or by swapping heels for boots.
It is good to pay attention to the care of clothes so that they last as long as possible. It is worth investing in quality and the course participants received good practical tips on how to recognize quality.
– Slow fashion is a more sustainable principle than fast fashion, Sohvi stated.
Treasures from UFF's vintage store
At the second meeting at the UFF in Töölöntori, a new selection had arrived at the store, and the flow of customers was in line with that.
Although the majority of customers are women, according to the store manager, there were also stylish young men in the store on the course evening, who, among other things, cleared out Marimekko's Jokapoika shirt.
– According to the store, the most popular vintage fashion right now is leather jackets and boots, the store manager said. When it comes to jeans, Levi's is especially popular, and various types of trousers with trumpet legs are also disappearing quickly. When it comes to outdoor clothing, the most popular are the overalls in neon colors with a vintage feel.
Touching and adjusting
Sohvi had selected models from the new selection that represented elements suitable for different body types. The fit of the clothes was reviewed together and everyone received feedback on their choices. Some good finds ended up in the shopping bag.
It didn't work out without some complications.
The course participants' own outerwear was left on a sled at the back of the store. At the end of the meeting, the reporter looked for his lost jacket until he saw it at the checkout just as it was about to end up with its new owner. So the item was almost taken away.
