Training for teachers of slow-progressing S2 groups and adult literacy, 12 credits

December 2023 – September 2024

Target group

The training is suitable for all S2 teachers whose groups have challenges in reading, reading speed or reading comprehension. The target group is teachers of liberal arts education, vocational adult education and home education, as well as other teachers who teach or are transitioning to teaching slow groups or literacy groups. Participants are required to have a teacher education (classroom teacher, special education teacher, language subject teacher or equivalent qualification). Experience in teaching adult immigrants is an advantage.  

Those who have studied outside Finland must have equivalent teacher training from their home country, a recognized degree, and a Finnish language proficiency level of C1. 

Objectives and contents

The aim is to strengthen the teacher's basic skills awareness and prepare them for teaching literacy, multi-literacy and poor readers. The training strengthens didactic skills and cultural sensitivity, as well as a language-aware approach and the identification of potential learning difficulties. 

Studies

The training includes eight days of face-to-face teaching and online work. Face-to-face teaching is streamed, so you can also participate from your own location. All topics have an assignment, and a learning diary is also kept. The time required for the training, calculated at 324 hours, should be taken into account in your own time planning.  

Main contents: didactics, functional methods, assessment, educational technology, cultural knowledge, and information about learning disabilities and trauma.  

You can participate in the face-to-face teaching on site or at home, but the lectures will not be recorded. Face-to-face days (8): 14.12.2023, 19.1.2024, 15.2., 15.3., 18.4., 16.5., 22.8. and 19.9. 

Local tuition is arranged at Helsinki Adult Education Centre, Runeberginkatu 22-24, 00100 Helsinki, always from 16.30:19.45 PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM. 

The scope of the education is 12 ECTS credits. All assignments must be completed by October 20.10.2024, XNUMX to receive a certificate.

Payments and cancellation terms

The training is educational personnel training funded by the Finnish National Agency for Education and participants will receive: free of charge. Any travel, accommodation, food and substitute expenses are the responsibility of the participant. Cancellations after the last day of registration will be charged 50 euros. Cancellations without a valid reason will be charged 100 euros.

Registration

Registration for the training has ended on December 3.12.2023, 49. Selection results will be announced after the application period ends in week XNUMX.
